John Onwualu came to Wharton to start a career on Wall Street, but along the way he was a student-athlete who experienced an Ivy League championship with Penn Football.

I’m interested in business and obviously, Wharton is the place for that. I also wanted to come here to live in a city. I wanted to try a new East Coast lifestyle. Coming from Minnesota, I was the only person I knew coming here. It was a bit overwhelming at first but the New Student Orientation made me feel comfortable from the minute I got here. There were so many activities and chances to meet people. The sense of community here at Wharton is huge.

3 best things about Wharton

3 things I’ve learned about myself

My family are the most important people in my life, I have the ability to step up to the level of work required while experiencing adversity, Wharton provides new opportunities that can change the current interests I have.

What I want to do with my business education

As of now, I want to experience the investment banking lifestyle on Wall Street for a few years.

My favorite experience at Wharton/Penn?

Building relationships with my professors

My “business and more” experience

I am not only learning everything there is to know about the fields of business that I am interested in, but I am also getting to meet such wonderful people from around the world while doing it. I have spoken with professors about their careers on Wall Street. Alumni have contacted me to visit them and see what they do. I also have had the opportunities to meet friends that I will have forever.
